How to Protect Your Wi-Fi and Smart Devices at Home

Smart homes are convenient but they also create new security risks. If your Wi-Fi isn’t protected, hackers can access everything from your security cameras to your smart TV. Here’s how to keep your home network safe.

1. Change Default Router Passwords

Most routers come with default credentials that are easy to find online. Always change them right after installation.

2. Use a Strong Wi-Fi Password

Avoid simple passwords like “home123.” Create a unique one with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.

3. Update Your Devices Regularly

Outdated firmware can leave your devices exposed. Set them to update automatically if possible.

4. Create a Guest Network

Keep your main network for personal devices and use a separate one for guests.

5. Consider a Smart Firewall or Security Gateway

These devices monitor your traffic and block suspicious activity before it becomes a problem.
