AWS ECS Explained in simple words

Amazon ECS will launch, monitor, and scale your application across flexible compute options with automatic integrations to other supporting AWS services that your application needs. Perform system operations such as creating custom scaling and capacity rules, and observe and query data from application logs and telemetry.

What if I told you I decided to explain each AWS service in simple words so that any non-technical person can understand how AWS works?

Today’s focus is AWS Elastic Container Services or ECS.

Let’s break down ECS for you.

Imagine you have several applications that you want to run. Instead of running them directly on a computer, you put each of them into a virtual box called a container. These containers include everything your applications need to run, such as the code, libraries, and settings. And this how ECS works.

It’s like having a supervisor that takes care of where each container runs, how many copies of it should be running, and if one fails, it replaces it with a new one automatically. .

AWS ECS helps you deploy, manage, and scale containerized applications efficiently. It’s a fully managed container orchestration service that integrates with the AWS environment to provide an easy-to-use solution for running container workloads in the cloud and on premises with advanced security features.

Benefits of ECS simplified for you:

1️⃣ Launch containers at scale:

It’s like your website or app suddenly gets a lot of visitors, ECS can automatically start more containers to handle the increased demand. When the demand decreases, it can scale down to save resources.

2️⃣ Reduce costs with pay-as-you-go pricing:

It’s like only paying for the water you consume instead of paying for a fixed amount, even if you don’t use it all. You don’t pay for resources you don’t use with ECS.

3️⃣ Increase speed and agility:

It’s like adjusting the water flow when you’re taking a shower. You use more water when you want a stronger flow and less when you want a gentler one.

Have you used ECS? What are the pros and cons? Does your company use containers in their environment?
